This frame was designed to be the heart of a low-maintenance, high-performance commuter bike. While titanium is often chosen for maximum performance, this customer wanted it for ride quality and its resistance to corrosion. Nods toward practicality include mudguards (fenders), strong 36-spoke wheels and puncture-resistant Schwalbe Durano tires.
The customer designed his drivetrain with a Shimano Alfine 11-speed internal gear hub, driven with a Gates CenterTrack belt to eliminate the need for chain lubrication. The belt drive required a splitter in the middle of the right seat stay to allow installation, as well as a BioCentric eccentric bottom bracket to allow tension adjustment.
For a neater look and to make cleaning the frame easier, the customer wanted everything routed internally. That included wiring for the Di2 electric shifter and a hub dynamo (for lights) as well as brake lines for the hydraulic discs.
